Yes, I'm on a grapefruit kick, trying to use up the last of my fresh grapefruits. It's surprising how well grapefruit works in cocktails, and especially how well it goes with bitter amaro like Campari.
For the Run With Me cocktail, build over ice:
The Rune With Me Cocktail: Vodka, Campari, Grapefruit, Lemon, Angostura
2 oz vodka
3/4 oz grapefruit juice
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz Campari
3/4 oz simple or brown sugar syrup
stir well, and then dash Angostura about four times on top.
It's a bitter drink, both from the Campari and the citrus, but the two work pleasantly together, especially combined with the spiciness of the Angostura bitters on top.
I call it the Run With Me cocktail because it's a drink that tastes like spring, and that's what I want to do when it's spring. Or at least what my kids keep yelling at me. Sure, I want to just sit and sip on cocktails like this one, but every once in a while, I give in to the demand to "run with me!"
