Tonight, I rewatched The Boondock Saints, a great action film from 1999. Gritty, emotional, raw, ultraviolent, and one of the top ten films with the filthiest language, The Boondock Saints is a fun movie with a great supporting gay role from Willem Defoe. Hilarious.
Aperol, too (like gritty action films, not gay roles), has become one of my passions, and I am constantly trying to find uses for it. Here's my latest, the Boston Saint. For this recipe, mix with ice:
and strain into a chilled coupe.
- 1 1/2 oz Aperol
- 1 1/2 oz Punt e Mes
- 3/4 oz lime juice
- 1/2 oz honey syrup*
The Boston Saint is magnificent. Sweet and sour, but not like a traditional sour. The sweet is richer, and the sour isn't cloying. Instead, it is balanced, and tastes like a sweeter, buoyant Campari. My kind of cocktail.
* To make the honey syrup, combine honey and water in a 1:1 ratio. In
other words, combine 3 oz honey and 3 oz water, and microwave it for 20
seconds. Then stir it and store in the refrigerator.
